French Polynesian Airline To Also Increase Capacity From North America
LOS ANGELES, CA, October 27, 2006 – Air Tahiti Nui today announced a reciprocal code share agreement with Air New Zealand to commence April 2, 2007. As part of the agreement, the Kiwi airline will no longer operate between Los Angeles International Airport and Faa’a International Airport in Papeete, Tahiti, opting instead to code share the route with the established French Polynesian carrier. Each carrier will also operate twice-weekly flights between Auckland, New Zealand, and Papeete, Tahiti, providing reciprocal code share capacity on each other’s flights.
“We at Air Tahiti Nui are delighted by our agreement with Air New Zealand and look forward to a mutually fruitful relationship,” said Nicholas Panza, Air Tahiti Nui vice president Americas. “This strengthens cooperation in the Pacific in a way that will further fuel visitor arrivals to our beautiful destination, at a particularly opportune moment as the islands are enjoying a wave of new hotel openings and refurbishments.”
To further bolster visitor arrivals, effective April 2nd Air Tahiti Nui will increase capacity on its key LAX – Papeete route, operating a total of seven terminating flights per week to Tahiti. An eighth flight will be added during peak season, from June to October. These departures are in addition to Air Tahiti Nui’s daily Papeete – Los Angeles – Paris flights.
Catering to one of its top markets, Air Tahiti Nui expects to enhance its honeymoon traffic to exotic Tahiti and Her Islands with the April 2nd return of its popular LAX – Papeete flight departing Monday evening at 11:45pm, arriving Tuesday morning at 5am. The convenient West Coast departure time allows newlyweds to easily connect from gateways across North America.
Also in response to demand, the carrier will operate three roundtrip flights on Saturdays between Los Angeles and Papeete. Southbound flights will depart at 1pm, 4:20pm and 11:45pm with northbound returns departing at 8:30am, 10pm and 11:15pm.
Air Tahiti Nui, the leading carrier to French Polynesia, has headquarters in Papeete and operates from Faa’a International Airport on the island of Tahiti. The company was founded in 1996 and commenced flight operations in 1998. Air Tahiti Nui won the award for “Best Onboard Service for a Smaller Airline” from the 2006 Skytrax airline survey and Global Traveler’s “Best of 2005” reader poll ranked Air Tahiti Nui the number two “Best Airline in the South Pacific, Australia, and New Zealand,” and sixth for “Best Onboard Service” in the worldwide category.
